Policies and Procedures

RISO Technical Training includes instructor-led classroom courses and online training programs.

RISO Classroom Courses

RISO Classroom Courses focus on selected current products. Discontinued RISO products and some current products are supported by training led by one of RISO’s Field Service Engineers. For discontinued product training, students must be certified in the current baseline product to participate. There is no technical training or materials available for obsolete products. Please see the “Course Registration” section to register for a course.

Certification Policies and Requirements

Sales Channels must employ and maintain a RISO product certified technician at each Sales Channel location and Sub Local authorized to distribute that product. For example, a Sales Channel selling SF units in a given location must have an SF certified technician in that location to service the product. Locations without technicians certified in a given product may not be allowed to order or have product shipped to that location and may be charged for any technical support.

Completion of certified training prior to product shipment is mandatory. RISO authorized locations are considered to have the ability to properly service RISO products ONLY when they have a trained, certified technician in their employ.

Should a RISO authorized location lose the certified technician for a specified or authorized product, the sales channel will have 30 days to enroll a technician in an appropriate product course and 90 days to have the technician certified. If at the end of this 90-day period there is still no certified technician at that location, that location may not be shipped product until a certified technician is obtained and verified.

To receive certification, technicians must achieve a final grade of 75% or higher in a RISO technical course administered by a RISO Certified Instructor or Field Service Engineers. There are no exceptions. Technicians receiving grades of 74% or lower are required to enroll in another training class to obtain certification.

Students who achieve RISO certification standards will be issued a RISO certification ID number and a diploma. This certification is not transferable with employment unless authorized by RISO, following a request from the appropriate representative of the sales channel. The certification does not give license to train or certify other technical representatives. Confidentiality of the RISO ID number is the responsibility of the technical representatives.

In the event the RISO ID is being used by anyone other than the assigned person, that RISO ID may be terminated and the student may have to recertify on the RISO products. RISO reserves the right to review a technical representative?s certification status at any time and to revoke said certification if RISO, in its sole discretion, deems such action necessary for any reason.

Online Training Programs

Online Continuing Education Courses

RISO uses online training for selected product certification, non-certified product training and prerequisite training for classroom courses. Product certification via online training carries the same weight as that obtained via classroom training. Specifics on registering for an online training course, tuition information, and prerequisites for courses are available in the “Training Support” section of the RISO Web site.

All students will receive access to the RISO Basic Technical Training Library. This library contains several prerequisite courses and non-certification training modules for selected RISO products. Students are required to register for all other online courses not in the basic library.

With regard to RISO prerequisite and online courses, the exam associated with them acts as either the final certification exam or may be part of their grade for a follow-on course. Students are usually allowed three attempts at passing the associated exam. The highest grade of the three attempts is considered the grade used to determine certification or used for a follow-on course. For certification courses, if a student is unable to attain a certification grade after all three attempts, he/she will be required to attend a RISO classroom course on that particular product to attain certification.

Accessibility to Online Training Courses

Each student that is assigned online training from RISO Inc. will have access to the assigned courses for that calendar year.

Online Pre Requisite Courses

The Student will have access to the pre req. online training until the Classroom training is finished. After that last day of class, the pre requisite training will be unassigned. The cost of Online Pre Requisite courses are included in the tuition for the Instructor Led Classes (ILT). See Course Descriptions for any Pre Requisites needed

Regular Online Training Courses

Each student who enrolls in a regular online training course must meet the pre requisite (if any) for the course they are enrolling in. There will be a pro-rated annual license fee per student. That will entitle the student access to the online training from the date they enroll to the last day of that calendar year. RISO Inc. recommends enrolling in online training early in a calendar year to maximize your access time.

Additional Technical Training Programs

Pre-Training Material and Recommendations: Previewing certain training materials and job aids will help reduce learning curves and maximize success with RISO Classroom Courses. Managers are strongly urged to require participants to complete pre-class assignments and recommendations. Previewing recommendations are listed under each course description.

RISO In-House Technical Trainer Certification Program: RISO Authorized Dealers may apply for the RISO In-House Technical Trainer Certification Program.
